xpost from my reddit post:

I was not expecting these numbers at all.

Basically I took a ton of screenshots of my auctions, put them into one picture, then charmed my girlfriend into putting it all into excel for me, cause she's awesome like that (and now she has something GIANT to hang over my head that I know she's saving for something).

Now, after we've done all this work, Blizzard will release the required API to do this in mere seconds.....or someone will tell me this information is in my settings or achievements or something...but oh well.

Total transactions (including cancelled, not sold, outbid and failed): 586

Total items sold: 222

Total items bought: 271

Cancelled/failed/not sold/outbid: 93

Total gold incoming: 27,210,513

Total gold outgoing: 26,910,861

AH Profit: 299,652

I do not consider myself an AH power user by any means, so the amount of incoming/outgoing is pretty staggering to me. I currently only have about 8 million in my pocket.

I can host the picture somewhere if someone has a suggestion, it's almost 12mb (although it is a PNG file, I could save as a jpg and it'd be considerably smaller) and is about 800px wide by 14,000px tall.

Here's the spreadsheet in google doc form for the zero of you who really care to see: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...nRacUVDV1JtLWc

Overall this was a pretty useless exercise but I thought it was pretty neat, so I thought I'd share

Does anyone craft jewels here? Im curious if one would make or lose money if they bought tomes and squares on the AH and then crafted them into stars.

I looked into it, profit margin after 15% transaction fee was something like 3%......not enough for the work.

Hmm I suppose it depends on 3% of what. If you spend 5 million, 3 percent would be 150k. I wonder how long it would take to craft 5 million. 10 minutes? I think ill look into this more tonight

My hand really hurts from butcher run clicking
Ive been selling the crap out of unis

Yeah, you have to factor in market fluctuation on mats, but if you buy, say 10-20 million worth at once, you could make 3-4 mil off of it I suppose.

Still, too much risk for me.

Edit: also make sure to monitor every type of gem, amethysts are WAY more expensive than, say, topaz or ruby.

Yeah but if im not mistaken they also sell for more(the stars) I think last i looked around 670k for amethysts. The rest were maybe 600k

Plus ive been contemplating investing in the next pattern up from star.

Yep they do tend to scale fairly well.

If you do get the pattern I might save my pennies and get a few amethysts made. I think they're running like 2.2m each right now.....little steep for me at the moment. I blew about 2.5 mil on the monk yesterday (finally got him to 60, woo!) so I only have like 11 mil left or something. I'm trying to maintain 15-20 mil but I keep making new heroes

I did it for a while. Profit margin is generally extremely small. However, sometimes you get the perfect storm. Generally you can do best with Amythest and Topaz, because they costs the least to buy the raw stuff (less than 200 a square as opposed to over 500 for emerald), and amythest and topazes actually sell, as opposed to Rubies, which you will pretty much always lose money on. I have sold Radiant Square Amethysts for as high as 187k, which is about 159k after fees, and it costs like 153k to make one, so, 6k for what amounted to about 5 mins of work. You can multiply the effects of this by making several at one. For instance, you could profit 18k for 3 of them, and it will take less than 15 mins to make, since the time to buy the raw materials can be mitigated amongst all radiant squares you make.

Its very tedious though, and the prices can change so quick that you are stuck with your money tied up in them before you can unload them for the right price, thats why I gave it up.
