My take

The Wii U will lose. It will get back on track with games like Smash Bros and (hopefully Galaxy 3) but in the long term Nintendo screwed up and will be in last place.

XBOX 720 will be second I feel Sony been on their stride since the misteps with the PS3's first 2 years.

PS4 I think will win. Sony has the most exclusive IP's Also I think Sony is going to be a bit more powerful than the 360

From where I'm sitting, it seems like a lot of people are going back to the good ol' PC for gaming thanks to Steam. While there are some games I prefer playing on the computer (simulation games mostly), most games I prefer to enjoy in my living room on the comfort of my couch and with surround sound.

I'm getting a PS4 because all of my friends are on Sony machines but it's hard to say who will win until Microsoft unveils their game plan.

The Wii U will undoubtedly drop in price when the PS4 and the next Xbox launch so it'll probably remain competitive. Other than that it's still too early to predict a true winner until we see the hardware from Sony and Microsoft. Specs don't tell the whole story as the last generation proved with the Wii handily outselling both the PS3 and Xbox 360 so I need to know a lot more before I make my prediction.

I am with Adric on the PC thing.
I think I am going back to a gaming PC that I hook up to the media room projector and use it for all my media needs...gaming, streaming, music etc.

It is true that in past rounds the most powerful system didn't always "win" or sell more.

NES was less powerful than SMS but easily dominated
SNES had nice colors and sounds but had less processing power than Genesis but still eked out a victory
PS1 although it could push a lot of polygons, had no perspective-corrected texture mapping and no bilinear filtering but easily outsold the N64 by over 3 to 1
PS2 was less powerful than the Gamecube and Xbox but became the best-selling console of all time
Wii has basically a 50% more powerful Gamecube but still managed to outsell the PS3 and 360 for a few years
You can also see this in the handheld market -- Gameboy vs. Game Gear / Lynx, DS vs. PSP, 3DS vs. Vita

It will be interesting to see what the Steambox looks like. Semi-closed PC architecture, Big Picture, download-only, and supposedly some new controller that combines the precision of mouse control with the comfort and convenience of a handheld controller.

I agree processing power is not every thing. However Nintendo was marketed to casual people not hardcore gamers. And I understand that Nintendo has great games like Mad World and Zelda etc but Nintendo was the family console

Microsoft and Sony marketed to the more hardcore crowd. The Wii sold better because it was cheaper and PS3 fumbled early on and the Xbox does not sell well in Japan. If Sony was not overpriced and came out the gate faster, Sony I think would of won.

The Wii U will not be able to support 3rd party very well because it is SO MUCH WEAKER than the rest. Their Mascots can only keep them a float so long

It will be interesting to see what Watch Dogs looks like, since that game is poised to hit PC, 360, 720, PS3, PS4, and Wii U.

This is a preliminary version of Watch Dogs running on the PS4. The narrator's voice is a little annoying but he talks less about 45 seconds into the video. Make sure and watch it on 1080p if you want to really see the details pop.

This is based on what, a direct port of third party sequels that were released months ago that wasn't as good as its predecessor?

First of all....Nintendos Wii U is technically Nintendos version of the Xbox 360/Playstation 3.

Just like the Wii was Nintendo's second version of the Gamecube/PS2/Xbox

Nintendo thinks they won the system war of Generation 7. Their system was always the cheapest least expensive product on the shelves. Their generation 7 software, was actually generation 6 software. As of now they still have not caught up to what Microsoft and Sony are about to release at years end. Many gamers are aware that Nintendos products dont actually compete with what Sony & Microsoft provides. The casuals have no clue and purchase based on pricetag. When the Playstation 4 comes out Nintendo will drop the price of the Wii U lower than the price of the PS3.

Nintendo will see more Wii Us than Playstation 4 and the next Xbox, but only because its priced lower.
