I know Navi is the obvious one here ("Hey, listen!") But what are some other ones in your opinion.
My vote is for Fiona from Mercenaries 2 ("If you're ever feeling a little lost, come back to the PMC and talk to me, I might be able to offer suggestions.") She never has suggestions. She also gives the SAME damn description every time you drive to a location no matter how many times you've been there already ("This is Lake Maracaibo, it's a massive body of water...")
There's also Roman from GTA IV ("Cousin...let's go bowling") and Dwayne, who will apparently kill himself if you refuse to get a burger with him just one time.
5) Princess Fillet (Brave Fencer Mushashi) - a very annoying "valley-girl" personality but the entire game was a little ridiculous with its characters. I think it was on purpose.
4) Duke Nukem (Duke Nukem Series) - a little too many cliches and one liners for my taste.
3) Titus (Final Fantasy X) - one of the whinniest characters ever to grace the series until I saw...
2) Hope (Final Fantasy XIII) - topped even Titus.
And the my annoying character in a video game is...
1) Vanille (Final Fantasy XIII) - so bubbly, I wish she would trip and fall on a porcupine. Needless to say, I did not enjoy this Final Fantasy. It's the first one I've ever played where I decided it wasn't even worth my time to finish.
I'll vote for Tidus from FFX too, and mention Cloud Strife from FFVII (who was just a miserable bar-steward).
Arlessa Isolde in DA:O although there are benefits to Isolde, you can kill her, kill her son, or best of all persuade her to kill her son, yes I am sick and sadistic and unashamedly so, but she deserves it.
Other "characters" not yet mentioned...
Survivors in need of escort
These are the people in Zombie, Merc, Alien, Killer Attack Dog, Killer attack squirrel, games you have to escort from position A to position B and not have them die. Why do these people have a death wish? If they just want to die why even bother accepting an escort. Now is not the time to go looking for shoes, its the time to not die, attacking some big bad monster/merc with your fists is more correctly termed trying to die
Rubber Band AI racing drivers
Ok you're 2 laps ahead of your nearest rival, there are three laps to go, you're lapping 30 seconds under the Formula 1 track record (on a real world track) in a tricked out Nissan Micra. Yet somehow your rivals will catch you before the last lap and likely pass you. Note to developers... Punishing the player is not cool, and not clever, and will not increase replayability, trust me on this one, I have a bookshelf dedicated to just such racing games and they're all incomplete.
Nuisance Characters in stealth games.
Best example of these is from Assassins Creed (I, II, Brotherhood, Revelations, III), yes we know you're cold, we know you're sick, we know you have a family, we know you're hungry, and we know you have a Lancashire accent, get a job, just get out of my way and stop drawing attention to me. Although I have discovered in ACIII the irritating kids will trigger mines (with no chance of desync), they leave no bodies, but they do disappear.
Stupid AI characters in Call of Duty games that get right in front of you as you're firing at the enemy, causing you to die because "Friendly fire will not be tolerated!" Not to mention when the AI decides he likes your cover spot better and starts pushing you out into the open so he can take cover there instead.
I LOVE the "obsessed fan". I used to take out my sadistic urges on him, practice my magic and whatnot. He's lots of fun to abuse, and gets all upset when you feed on people (as a vampire) or practice fire magic on him
Buck in Far Cry 3. He's just a freakin' creep. Makes my skin crawl.
