I've been out of the gaming scene for a number of years and I'm looking at getting back into it. I'm going to build a new gaming PC but until then I was thinking of getting back into some console gaming for a bit. Which console should I buy and why? I'm mostly into action, strategy, shooters, adventure, and RPG type games. I'm not really into driving or sports games or at least those are not the types of games that would make me lean towards a certain system. I do enjoy some on-line gaming. Thanks for any input.

I suggest Sony's PS3 based on the fact that it has now overtaken the Xbox 360 in the number of total units sold globally.

If you'd rather wait until this holiday season to pick up your console then get the PS4 which represents a tremendous value at $399. It's fairly common wisdom that Sony's PS4 will dominate the next generation which ultimately means that the most noted developers will tailor their games towards its specifications.

I would get a ps3. If you like action and adventure then I would pick up the Uncharted series, and the Last of Us game.

Yeah, i base all console decisions on irrelevant facts. Both consoles are doing just fine. . .and both have enough support from 3rd party developer that exclusives are almost a thing of the past. lead doesn't matter.

I have both so. . .

I would go ahead and go with the xbox 360. My reasoning is that for the price its just a better value, and the consoles are too similar on game availability and graphics to pay a extra fee for a ps3

Plus the ps3 uses bluetooth for the remote, which is ANNOYING out the wahzzo for a home theater.

Price - winner xbox
Looking on Amazon the PS3 is about 299. I think part of this is driven by the console's bluray drive. If your house already has one, maybe you don't need it. Xbox 360 4gig is about $199 and a value bundle with bigger hard drive $249

Graphics - tie
I wouldn't argue that the PS3 isn't capable of better graphics. It is. yet lets be real. No publisher makes games for one console. You won't see much of a difference between the consoles games. . .from a graphics perspective

Game availability - tie
On PS3 some better exclusives I think like UnCharted and God of War. Xbox has gears of war and Halo. yet as I noted, 3rd party exclusives are all but dead. Almost every game you could get is available on both systems.

networking - tie/slight lead xbox with $
Xbox you have to pay for live. . but when you do, you get a ton of stuff (amazon instant, netflix, multiplayer games, hbo go, xfinity, etc). Sony is catching up, but Microsoft has the ecosystem down.

^Amazon link added.

I recently purchased a new 500GB PS3 with Assassins Creed III through Newegg on eBay for $229 and free shipping - price goes to PS3.

Register with Slickdeals and set up a filter for PS3 and one will probably show up in a week or so...

Edit: The Xbox bundle is possibly better, but it's a 250GB drive if that matters to you.

That was my first impression, but the bundle with the Xbox does look to be better...

I've heard that there is more multiplayer action on the XBox 360, if that matters to you.
