Yup. Our system at work has roughly 15 petabytes of storage, lol.

Yeah some of these 40-50 GB games are kinda ridiculous, but I guess that's what happens as graphical quality continues to increase. Luckily I have decent internet (~3 MB/s) and a terabyte drive so it's not too much trouble, but I feel sorry for those who have slower internet.
I play a lot of older and indie games anyway so I don't have to deal with it too often.

A lot of games have more detailed graphics, and more content which takes up more space. But then if you have horrible internet, it would take days to download.

Higher resolution textures. A good example is World of Tanks - although they have some "hd" models, most tank models and textures are several years old and don't really look that well. 3 or so years ago they promised HD textures will come one day, lately they said they won't. Why ?
Well, with ~300 tanks (and counting) and hd textures for each weighting roughly 80MB (a number they gave), a HD texture pack would be roughly 24GB big. (on top of the 16 or so GB the game already takes up). And that's only the hd space, during a single battle it would mean loading up to 30 80mb hd textures ....
