How does it compare to the first game in the series?

Do you mean Mafia 2 or Mafia 3? Mafia 3 is the new one that is coming out. It looks pretty good. I much preferred the Gangsters game that was released for PC back in 98. It was more of a strategy based game and less of a GTA type shooter that Mafia 3 seems to look like.

I played maybe 2 or 3 hours of Mafia 2 and all I remember is getting bored of it and not finishing the game. Having to drive from point A to point B and do this and that just got so old quick.

I enjoyed Mafia II and just did another play through in anticipation of III. There is repetition but most games have some. The driving is more fun once you get Luca Garino's car and better yet when you get Leo Galante's. I like the story, although it's a little thin, and the voice actors do a very good job.

I have the first game too but didn't think that highly of it.

I love Mafia 2, and the DLC (Jimmy's in particular). Story is solid, gun play and driving mechanics are fun, especially once the better cars become available as TKO mentioned. There is repetition and excessive driving, but the missions in general are cool. I probably played it through dlc and all 5-6 times.

Well part three came out and got mixed reviews.

Looks like story is good but gameplay tedious and repetitive. I didn't like how you have to drive everywhere so much.

Good to know, I was on the fence. It seems like those "wow!" games which can be played for months on end are as rare as ever nowadays.

I was bored and nothing good on the PS Now site, so I rented Mafia III from Redbox.

At least if it sucks I can return it in a few days.

I'm actually surprised but I'm starting to enjoy this game.

Yes, it is like any other game of this genre, but the story line is very good with a lot of good attention to detail in terms of historical background and the time period. I like how the game switched the protagonist so that it's a mafia game, but he's not part of it.

It can be repetitious but like I said there's only so much you can do in this type of game, and it flows well with the story. There's a lot of driving but I don't really notice it as much since the driving mechanics I think are good and many missions are close together within the same zone.

I like how you can sneak a lot to take care of enemies.

So far so good.
