My son is really fed up with his xbox 360 freezing while he's playing COD-Black Ops online, but his cousins say theirs freezes on them,as well. That's a bunch of crap to pay a subscription fee, and have to put up with freezes!

Was just wondering if Playstation also freezes?

I happens sometimes to every console. Usually its the game (i.e., the developers) or your internet speed/provider that causes it. Although it can be a multitude of things. Freezes can occur at any time for any reason when playing FPS games online.

I have 104.5 mbps download and 11.36 mbps upload speed internet and rarely get freezes on my xbox 360, pc or Wii-U. All are wirelessly connected.

Going to Playstation from Xbox isnt going to fix it. Check your internet speeds and make sure your NAT is "OPEN".

That's called "lag" and happens for a variety of reasons...could be your router, or a bad wifi connection, could be your ISP, or the game servers, or somewhere in the middle. Sometimes ISP upload/download speed has nothing to do with it.

Sometimes, depending on how the game is designed, it might be other users with slow connection and ping rates that are actually lagging other users, as the system will compensate to relect the slowest user (in BF4 there were always complaints about Brazilian users on US servers).

And sometimes...it's more nefarious. Some users use "lagswitches" to gain an unfair advantage in multiplayer.

His cousins play wireless,so they and my son think it's the gamesite's server, and not on the player's end at all.

It has been happening since the Atari and Nintendo days. It's nothing new.

Yes, especially noticeable during rapid fire shooter games. Ours was the cable company wanting us to up our bandwidth and secretly delaying our gratification on purpose until we bought more or so my husbands conspiracy theory goes.

P.S. It still has lag......just not as much according to my husbands new calculations. lol

Sigh, ok, thanks everyone.

Glad I gave up on Console games when Nintendo 64 came out,and switched to PC and mouse-driven games.

It can also happen during peak hours if you have a cable modem, as more people would be on the same node.

Here in 2015 I would be... irritated.. if my console froze all the time with no reasonable explanation... then again I haven't owned a console since the Nintendo 64. Actually I have a PS3 but never used it for games.

My first question would be, is the console itself freezing or just the game? If just the game freezes, you should generally still be able to access the Xbox live menus even with the game itself frozen.
