I still have all my games going back to when I got my NES in 1990/1991. Time is not on my side right now and have enough problems playing the games I've bought, but when I do have time I really enjoy playing classic and retro games. I have all my consoles, minus the NES (gotta replace the cartridge reader) hooked up to my TV. Unfortunately, my Genesis has a fine layer of dust on it right now and one working controller (last I used it), but wouldn't mind firing it up to play some Streets of Rage. Just something about playing old games on the original consoles is very satisfying to me, clunky controls and all
I was thinking about getting it, but it got really bad revues online. The atari flashback doesn't seem to bad I might get it.
It's not as bad as some of the reviews paint it as. The biggest flaw is that the sound chip isn't as good as a real Genesis, so some games don't sound great (especially since the included A/V cables are mono only). And it will not play some cartridges due to memory size (Super Street Fighter II) or special chips (Virtua Racing). Also about half of the games included are poor quality homebrews.
But the system is a small size and feels well built. The controllers (at least the wired ones I got) are really nice. It can also play imports and Mega Drive games and homebrews/repros. So if you are fine with just playing the games included, and maybe a few others, it's a decent way to play them. But if you want to play a lot of other Genesis games, I would recommend getting a real Genesis (I got one for $20 including shipping with 2 controllers and a few loose games on eBay) and an Everdrive, which is a flash cart that you can stick a SD card into to basically play any Genesis and Sega Master System game (and 32X if you have one).
I enjoy playing oldschool retro games. I dont enjoy the hoarding aspect of it. Im not a huge fan of multiple gaming devices in my home. One in the main room and maybe one in the bedroom. Both consoles should be used on a regular basis. Our PS3 still gets plenty of run specifically because of PS1 and PS2 classics from PSN. Dont have a PS4 yet, but plan to get one eventually. The thing about retro games is they are much harder and you have to invest a lot of time trying to complete them. Ive been playing Chrono Trigger for over 2 years now, still havnt completed it.

I installed RetroPie on a Raspberry Pi. Plays games on everything from an Atari 2600 to a Playstation 2 and is as small as a wallet that hides behind the TV.

The old Squaresoft games like Chrono Trigger are awesome they will always be playable.

I'm also anti-clutter as well, but I live in an apartment so space is limited with most of my gaming consoles in storage. I generally only have consoles I'm using hooked up. For me those two are Xbox One (which I actually mostly use for streaming video and occasional gaming), and my Sega Saturn which I game on almost daily. Never been a big fan of those 10+ console center setups...
