I find it tragic that the Halo series wasn’t included on the list. The original Halo: Combat Evolved defined first person shooters on a console. If that weren’t enough, Halo 2 was revolutionary in its on-line execution and seamless melding of X-BOX-LIVE features. Halo 2 literally made all other console based FPS that came before it obsolete and even converted some PC gamers in to the Halo fold thanks to the awesome voice-chat feature. Now I will admit that Halo 3 appears more evolutionary than revolutionary but the game still has a huge following as its not uncommon to see well over a quarter of a million people playing it on-line most Friday nights.
My personal favourites are the Metal Gear/Solid series, Megaman (From 1 to the latest entry, with a few exceptions), Zelda, and Star Ocean. If I had to pick one, it'd probably be Star Ocean.
So hard to say! As a kid Super Mario Bros 3 was the BEST GAME on Nintendo, there were very close seconds, and my friends and i LOVED Tekken and Twisted Metal, Mortal Kombat ate a few of my quarters at the arcade, but for sheer storytelling and time spent on a game, Final Fantasy rules, VII in particular is my favorite. Now Halo seems to be one of my favorites now, but it doesn't top Final Fantasy VII.
How about the Half-Life series? It started TFC, Counterstrike, Day of Defeat.
