Been out of the RTS loop for a while; I have a week off and want to play something new. I've been waiting on SC2 but in the meantime I'm not sure what can hold me over.

Dawn of War?
Empire: TW?
Any others?

A lot of guys are still doing warcraft 3 until starcraft 2 comes out. I think SC2 comes out prior to christmas time, so keep your fingers crossed. Then those jerkwads over at blizzard can pump out diablo 3 faster!!

Sins of a Solar Empire
Seriously best money I've ever spent. This I found more satisfying than Starcraft (though I'm not old enough to get nostalgic.)
Sci-fi
Ship combat - Easy to grasp...difficult to master. It really has been a wonderful experience.
Recommend this to anyone and everyone looking for an RTS to tie them over.

Not sure I would define Empire TW as a "RTS" (real time strategy). It's more of a turn-based/RTS hybrid - with the campaign game being turn-based, and the tactical battles being RTS.

By the way, Empire TW has had a vast improvement with the latest patches (only took them 6 months to improve this original mess of a game) and I think you can get it for $20 from some game vendors.

"SC2" means Strategic Command 2 for us wargamers.

Interesting. Never actually heard of it. I looked around the net a bit and it seems promising. Its gone gold which means you can probably pick it up for 20 or 30 dollars now. I may check it out.

Company of Heroes is pretty awesome for an RTS. It actually does have strategy in it. Not like the unlimited RTS games where you spam as many archers or flying creatures as you can before your opponent can do it.

Also Sacred 2 is kick ass. Not a strategy game but a RPG somewhat like diablo

I've always been a command and conquer guy, so I'll go with Red Alert 3. Also second Company of Heroes. 2 other games that are not RTS per say, but similar is World in Conflict and Order of War. The interface is point and click like all RTS, but it gets rid of the base building. You air drop forces into the combat zone and focus on holding key points of the map.
