Get Blackvue. They use a capacitor instead of battery so you don't end up with a failed/exploded battery due to heat, and they are reliable cameras. Get one of the models with GPS built in so that time is always correct and location is recorded.

Get a separate camera for the front and rear of the vehicle and put in the biggest SD cards they can take

A dash cam sounds like a good idea. However I think it would be very inconvenient to have to remove it and pack it away in the trunk whenever I park the car in a public location.

Depends on how big it is, how it is mounted, how visible it is etc...

Who says you have to hide it in the trunk? Some are small enough to put under the seat or in the glove box, etc, etc, etc...

I’ve had a Thinkware 2 channel version for well over a year. It’s handled the AZ heat well although I did replace the memory card last month. Small, unobtrusive, etc. it also has collision warning, lane departure warning, movement detection while parked if you don’t want to record continually, etc. it also has front and rear cameras, hence, the 2 channels.
