HI; Reading all the VB feedback inspires me to ask my question...
I am a retired journalist who now writes freelance from home. I am befuddled by the info I'm getting about apartment costs in Virginia Beach. I've been told that some inexpensive apartments can be found; this forum contradicts that. Help. Who's right? I need to be there by August so I'll no doubt be renting sight unseen, which worked when I was 20 but I don't know about now.

I need a small, pet freindly, and NOT expensive rental apartment in Virginia Beach. I am the Perfect Tenant: no smoking, no heavy drinking, no wild parties, small smart watchdog, great personality (the dog), quiet (my Pom and me) and totally responsible. However, a journalist can get visibility but not rich so money is an issue.
Does anyone in VB know of any "senior freindly" apartment with nice neighbors? I would also be willing to housesit until I find something better there. Do they do that in VB? I am now in the boonies of Texas and since I am a New Yorker, this AIN'T my cup of tea. Help. Any nonflammable suggestions welcome. JO

Writerlady, there are rentals available, and I am hearing from our rental dept. more and more of them, as folks can't sell their homes they are renting them. I don't know what you consider to be inexpensive. Do you have a range you are trying to stay within?

Shelly

Dear Shelly TC: I am embarressed to say this but I need to find something under $600. I'm told by some this is possible; others fall on the floor in shock. Is this Mission Impossible? I am not fussy since I am good at landing on my feet -- and have lived abroad in less than ideal circumstances -- what do you think? Jo
PS I am bondable and have local VA family references. I would be willing to housesit for several months or more depending on the situation. Well, I'm desperate so any and all suggestions are welcome.

There are places in Hampton Roads that are subsidised (sp?) and the rent is based on income. My dad lives in Newport News in the heart of shopping in a quaint little seniors place. The place is about 5 years old, secured and for indendent seniors over 55. He pays around 550.00 a month for a 1 bedroom.

I cannot help you regarding Va Beach, but my guess is that the same type of places exist. I would search on the Va Beach government web site for senior information and you should find some similar housing.

WriterLady

It might be easier to find a room in a shared rental home. For $600 a month you could probably live in a very nice place if you are open to having roommates.

best wishes....Franco
