You should probably post this in the Northern Virginia forum because you'll get more answers.

All of Loudoun has fairly large houses, plenty of shopping and good schools.

The eastern part of Loudoun is the most metropolitan with more public transporation options; the western side is significantly more rural.

It would also help if you give a price range for housing because it varies widely from $180,000 townhouses to multi-million dollar estates.

As mentioned you will get more and better responses by posting in the Northern Virginia subfolder as Loudoun is considered part of that. When you do, give more details, what price range, how much commute you are willing to endear, etc. You may have problems finding public transportation there depending on where you need it for the teen but the locals in that area can tell you. Personally I do not consider Loudoun as metropolitan, but rather total suburbia. Again, post there and you will get better information.
