I was planning a trip down to Williamsburg for a night (going to leave NOVA at around 2pm on a Friday and coming back up sometime Saturday morning). Does anyone know of any traffic patterns that would deter me from leaving/coming back at those times? What time should I leave Williamsburg Saturday morning? Or does it not matter as there shouldn't be much traffic (by morning I mean I'd be leaving at or around 8am)?

Thanks!

Now that we are getting into fall and don't have the summer traffic, you should be fine. In the summer, Saturday morning traffic leaving the outer banks, Virginia Beach, and Williamsburg (all tourist locations) and heading north, can be brutal on Saturday morning. But this time of year should be fine.

Leaving NOVA at 2pm would be more of a headache than leaving Willyburg at 8am.

Consider picking up Route 17 in Fredericksburg and taking that all the way to Yorktown then cut over to Williamsburg on the Colonial Parkway. They drive is easy, not congested at all, and the scenery is much, much better. Not sure if it's quicker but it definitely won't take any longer than 95/64.

Would leaving Annandale at 4pm still work? (I'd be leaving from there anyways)

My experience with 95 is that traffic can be really bad on I-95 south (and north for that matter) in the afternoon especially on a Friday. I've seen traffic backed up from Fredricksburg to DC before...hard to say on that one. The route 17 idea by a previous poster wasnt a bad consideration. As for leaving Williamsburg, there shouldnt be too much traffic these days. Now that summer is just about over its not real bad.

I AGREE THAT YOU SHOULD PICK UP RT 17 S at fredricksburg, on a friday all you will do is spend hrs in nascar conditions or else traffic grid lock,

Reality traffic check.... traffic on 95 is still horrible... especially on Fridays too even though the summer is over. Lots of folks are still going south to take out their boats and spend time on the water.

I would leave Annandale no later than 1:00 PM. I'm on 95 every day..... You won't have any problem on the way back on Saturday, though.
