I just found out I'm going to be stationed at Langley. Can someone give me an idea of what the surrounding area is like? Where do most people live? Can I buy for under 200k?

not a bad area
langley is not a bad place to be stationed. you'll be on a pretty clean and quiet side of hampton with york co. and poquoson nearby. 200k wont buy you a house unless you want to stay in a small house on hampton's rougher side but townhomes near the base wont be too hard to find in that range. soliders w/kids live in york co/poquoson b/c of their schools. soliders w/o kids live hampton.

We were stationed at Langley for 5 years and really enjoyed the area. Housing proces were higher then we expected but we did buy in the Tabb school disctrict (York County). I think you will get more responses if you post in the Hampton Roads thread. Enjoy your assignment.

Most folks seem to prefer York County for various reasons. 2 bedroom townhomes there can be bought in the $150-160k range although watch out for higher HOA/condo fees on some. Hard to get any type of detached home for $200k unless you are willing to buy an older fixer upper. York Crossing, Grafton Woods, Coventry, Glen Laurel are a few to consider..
