Living "off the grid"....by definition means you are not connected to the electric grid. I know of no law/rule that states that you must have your home connected to the electric utility.

Did you check through all the building code requirements to get a permit for this or that? Sometimes these requirements come up in odd places.
I know you can actually do it in Esmeralda County, NV...but other than that wondrous place be careful.

If you are off grid why do you care about regulations? You won't be asking for any services from the locality, so why does it matter what you do on the land you own if you will be self-reliant?

In some places failure to follow building codes may be a misdemeanor or, under some circumstances, a felony. So you could actually end up in jail.
Normally governments tend to go for civil injunctions. But those can also lead to bad consdquences if ignored.
