So I was out with my auntie the other night visiting relatives in another county. My auntie stopped at the red light at the intersection and we sat there a while (not sure how long). I remember noticing that there was no traffic in the intersection. All of a sudden Auntie starts making a left turn and I'm like, "what are you..." but she had already finished making the turn before I got the whole sentence out (what are you doing?). She had just made a left hand turn at a red light. She said she thought it was green. I remember looking up at the lights as she was going through because I was so surprised by the whole thing. I'm 99.9999% sure that our light was red, I didn't see green and I was looking for it. The only other lights I noticed were the ones we turned under and I saw red, but I also saw green. Maybe their left turn traffic was red, and the straight traffic had just turned green since there was no one in the intersection.

Anyway... I'm almost certain this intersection has cameras. Do you think she'll get a ticket in the mail? I didn't notice a flash and since it was dark it seems like there would've been one. She is very concerned because she's 64 and has a perfect driving record and doesn't want it tarnished. Plus, she doesn't want her insurance rates to go up. She's totally freaking out (still) about possibly getting a ticket. So I thought I'd check things out for her.

Of course, I'm freaking out that she even turned at that red light. We could've been in an accident. It makes me even more concerned than I already am about her possibly having symptoms of dementia.

So, if she's gonna get a ticket, about how long would it take to arrive? A few days? A few weeks?

Where was this? Not many areas in VA have red light cameras?

I thought VA was full of red light cameras. What are those things that look like cameras sitting on the horizontal poles the traffic lights are on? I see those things all over the place.

I believe this happened in Rockingham County. I'd have to ask as it was late and I'm not familiar with that area.

Maybe a sensor for what's there as a means for emergency vehicles to change a light to allow them a green when on an emergency. But no, not many red light cameras in VA at all.

Not sure how accurate this site is.

Did you see a flash? The ones I've seen (all in MD) flashed as a driver goes through and its pretty obvious.

They're for traffic flow.

Don't feel bad, when I first moved here I thought they were money machines (aka red light cameras) too.
