My wife and I were driving from PA going to NC on US Rt 13, and got a reckless driving ticket for driving 74 in a 45 mile zone. I would greatly appreciate if someone can provide general advice on how they dealt with such a ticket in the past. I'm interested in knowing all the things I could be doing to minimize the penalty (more focused on lowering points / getting rid of the reckless driving charge than the cost).

Also, I would like recommendations for lawyers who you may think would do a good job in Eastville / Northampton County.

Thank you for your help.

I don't know anything about that specific area, but you are on the right track. Lawyering up is the best way to reduce the damage. I won't give you a lecture about speeding, but as you now know, it is much more than just a traffic ticket in Virginia.

I would call various local offices and see what the charge, if they have relationships with the judges/prosecutors, and if they are willing to represent you without you being present.

From me? Nope. I don't know anyone out that way. I would just look in the phonebook/yelp and give a few places a call until you find someone you are comfortable with.

Be sure to ask if they have experience with cases like yours and if they know the judges and prosecutors in that district. The main advantage to getting a lawyer is that they have relationships with the judge/prosecutor and can cut deals. They may even be able to represent you without you having to be present.
