When driving from Martinsburg to Charlotte, we passed a town to our left that looked like a tiny town surrounded by gorgeous mountains and trees. Someone said it might have been Fancy Gap. Does anyone know what area I'm talking about and is that it?

In doing a real estate search to see how much land one can get, at how much, what property taxes there are, and what the schools are rated, it brought up some other areas like Willis. Again, any experience with the area?

What is the ocean/the closest ocean town to this general area?

Thank you!

Hmm.. Well fancy gap is just east of I77. South of Hillsville but north of mt airy nc. The closest ocean I guess would be the atlantic. Meaning the Va tidewater or NC OBX would be the best bets for close ocean towns/cities.

Thank you for your response. Can you see Fancy Gap from the highway? It was a small town in the distance surrounded by mountains and it was definitely still on the VA side.

I know the Atlantic is the closest ocean. LOL I meant, what seaside town would be closest and how far is it from Willis?

For example, we have considered moving to NC and I assumed we would look at the Raleigh area since my husband's company has a location there and I thought it would be closer to the ocean. Upon doing some research though, it appears Charlotte is actually closer to the ocean by hitting towns in SC.

Willis is no more than a wide spot in the road, 20 miles east of Hillsville, 10 miles west of Floyd. It has a little market with gas pumps, Jim's Grill, a post office and a small branch of the Bank of Floyd on route 221. There is one other small restaurant with fare similar to Jim's and a good auto repair shop.

The rest of Willis is farmland.

Virginia Beach is about 300 miles away.

Willis to Raleigh is about 180 miles, 3 hour drive.
