Hows the economy? Jobs hiring? Good schools? Good place to raise a family?

I drove I-81 between Roanoke and Bristol countless times, and only stopped there a few times. I know next to nothing about it, other than the Matterhorn at Wolfahrt Haus is a great place to grab a bite and a drink, especially if you like German beer.

I'm always surprised that the Virginia forum is so dead, I guess it's true that transplants aren't moving to VA like they used to.

Anyway, Wytheville is a small and very remote town. It's mountainous, beautiful area. For your sake, I might suggest looking closer to Roanoke, though.

Wytheville is a sleepy town kind of out in the middle of nowhere. I can't imagine the economy being good there.

Not a whole lot happening around there my friend. Now if you had a job in Blacksburg, you would have a 45min - 1 hour commute I'm guessing. The "bedroom community" for Blacksburg seems to be Riner/Floyd.

The transplants in VA probably don't care as much for this forum as transplants in NC! Seriously, I do not think you can gauge the rate of migration on the number of posts on the City-Data forum.

Also, the big metros are already covered. The rest of Virginia is mostly rural and of little interest to those seeking employment.
