When you are driving down 77 south and hit the very end of Virginia right before hitting North Carolina, what is the name of the town on the left that is surrounded by mountains?? I thought it might be Fancy Gap, but the exit for FG seems too soon to be it.

Lambsburg/Pipers Gap is the very last exit(Exit 1) right before you cross into N.C. on 77 with the truck stop/gas station. I'm not sure if your talking about right there or your seeing Cana,Va or Mt. Airy,NC on Route 52 a few miles over. Fancy Gap is back up near Exit 8 but if you look back left handed you can see a small part of it. I know coming off 6 Mile Mtn. On 77, everything opens up and you can see forever it seems. I use to travel this stretch several times a year but havent been thru there in several years.

You wouldn't be able to miss it. Driving south, you can see the town on the left. It's vast and surrounded by mountains. It's maybe the last few exits. ...not as far back as Fancy Gap though.

Exit 1 and 8 have been identified, exit 14 is Hillsville...that's all there is....and Hillsville is on the east side, but with a population of 2K, it could not be termed vast in size.

Looked at the Google map - Cana maybe?

That's the last town on the left heading south.

Are you sure the town you're looking at is in VA? You get a pretty good view of Mt Airy, NC coming down I-77. You can see it before you cross the state line.

Pilot Mountain is in the center of this picture. Although Fancy Gap is indicated in the URL that's just where the pic was taken from, but you're seeing Mount Airy and Pilot Mountain: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Fa...87975b!6m1!1e1

And if you hear the sheriff whistling in the background, you KNOW it's Mt. Airy!
