Fellow Virginians: You may have read about the horrifying abuse and neglect of explosive-detection dogs we, the American taxpayers, provided to the government of Jordan. Many if not most of these dogs were trained in Winchester, Virginia. Many have died after suffering from lack of food, water, decent shelter or basic medical care.

Please consider taking 5 minutes to email or call Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner to demand that they hold the State Department accountable. Constituents of Rep. Abby Spanberger could also email or call her office. This is not a political issue; it's an issue of basic decency.

Sen. Kaine:

Manassas office: (703) 361-3192
Chief of Staff: Mike Henry: mjh@kaine.senate.gov

Sen. Warner:

DC: Office: 202-224-2023
Chief of Staff: Mike Harney:
Email: mike_harney@warner.senate.gov

Rep. Spanberger:

Again, this is not about politics. There are dog lovers of every political stripe. No one with any decency should tolerate what these dogs have been subjected to. It amounts to an ongoing waste of taxpayer funds, and on top of that it's inhumane and un-American.

Thank you.

I agree writing these folks may help. But please add Pompeo to this list. The State Dept is so at fault in this. I cannot say a lot but my federal K9 agency trained these dogs before and we checked on them. Once State took it from us and put it in the hands of a private company things changed. Let's just say that connections were involved. I just retired so they no longer have a muzzle on me (pardon the pun) and State needs to accept responsibility. I should clarify that my agency only trained some of these dogs but the point stands.

Most recent article I've seen. And for what it's worth. I have little faith in the State Dept following through with this based on my work experience.
