I had almost given up hope but it looks like we're going to be on our way in a few weeks! We've been in FL (from MA) 30 years and now my family is gone so no reason to stay in FL. We're moving to Lynchburg, sight unseen, based on what I've found on the internet. I don't know what I don't know. Can anyone help us out? What do we need to know about Lynchburg? We haven't lived in an apartment in forever, any recommendations? One bedroom, around $850 a month, small dog, we walk a lot, newly retired, healthy. We've been vaccinated, still masking up, not bringing FL covid. Thanks!

I'd suggest, as part of your search, going out on the far northwestern end of Rivermont Road, out near to Booneborough Rd. This is the old 'high end' part of town, and has Mary Baldwin College nearby. Plenty of good areas to walk. Here is one older home that has been divided up into apartments that is in your price range:

I'd find out if this, or any apartment in that area, is a college girl's apartment or you might have some noisy neighbors come fall!

You might also check out the further western parts of Forest.

Lynchburg overall is decently prosperous. Modest amounts of light industry and a regional trade center. Liberty University is big there now and puts $$ into the local economy. The downtown is a typical mixture of kept-up and some places not so well kept, like so many small cities. A generally conservative small city and area. Has all the common modern box stores and such in outlying shopping areas.

Some minor corrections for your search — It’s Rivermont Avenue, it’s spelled Boonsboro Road, it’s Randolph College (formerly Randolph Macon Women’s College). Mary Baldwin University is in Staunton.

Thank you for the corrections! I live near Staunton so get the words 'Mary Baldwin' on the brain...

I suspect you know the area which I was describing to the OP.

Yes, I do though my information might be a bit dated. My kids went to school there so we’ve not been there much since 2007. I set my user name when we were contemplating retirement there but, alas, you never know where life’s going to take you . . . Grandchildren came along elsewhere.

Lynchburg is a lovely community and I would live in that Rivermont/Boonsboro area in a heartbeat.

Very nice quiet area. There are several apt complexes near Starbucks/Food Lion shopping center (Boonsboro Commons) which also has nice stores and restaurants. Highly recommend. Another node near Randolph College. I'd avoid any on Old Forest Rd.
