The thread is about cc authorizations, which use IP.

FWIW... Not sure if this is the same issue as the OP or not. My particular MC card has had problems with a select few newer credit card readers in some gas stations. Sheetz acknowledged that their new pump card readers had some glitches when they were deployed last year, and the reader provider did some work to help.

But it did not fix all problems for all cards. I have had problems at all Sheetz stations for over half a year, a Love's gas station near Clifton Forge VA, and early this week, at a 7-11 in Denver CO.

I called my MC card provider and they apologized and it sounded like there was some issue with my particular card (a card with a particular airline), but I could not get specific info from them. The problem readers treat my credit card as if it is a debit card and asks for a PIN.

I kinda wonder if their is some dispute over charges between the MC provider and some of the larger gas station chains.....
