I have a friend who is thinking of meeting up with his daughter in Lexington Va. They both live a couple of hours away from there and thought it looked like a good place for 2 nights and 2 1/2 days to visit, look in shops, eat out, basically peaceful and time to catch up with each other in person. They would stay at a hotel, which they are trying to decide on. And the main thing is safety. Do you think Lexington is a good place for this? Thanks.

Lexington has a beautiful little downtown, and some good restaurants, as well as a nice hiking trail (Chessie Trail). I think it would be a swell meet-up spot!

Thank you. I'll relay that. They have been looking online and are looking forward to this. All the best.

No doubt Lexington is a great place. My wife and I stayed overnight for an anniversary even though we actually only live an hour north. The Hampton Inn is a former mansion and is not the standard hotel as far as appearances. The wife loved it.

Good to know about the Hampton Inn. My friend's daughter is thinking of staying where she is for a couple of years which would allow her and her father to meet up and visit in Lexington more regularly. Lexington seems very nice and could be ideal for them going forward. I was just now coming back to ask about a good hotel, nice, safe, clean. Are there other hotels they might explore that meet those features as well. Thank you so much for your help.

There are a number of the lower cost hotels in the area but I've never used them. I think George's is the only 4-star style hotel located there as a hefty price tag but I've never been in it.

I'd add the Country Inn & Suites and Best Western Plus and Wingate as newer construction motels meeting those criteria, but those are on the outskirts of town, not in downtown, and are in somewhat-commercialized areas. The Hampton Inn is a few blocks from downtown, and is in what is essentially a residential area.

Now if you want something different, there is the Natural Bridge Hotel, about 12 miles south of Lexington. Built in the mid 60's, it replaced the 19th century wooden hotel that burned in 1962. I have eaten there numerous times but never stayed. You might ask if there is air-conditioning in the rooms due to the age... it is listed for the Main Hoteel rooms but not for the other connected rooming areas. (There were supposed to be renovations but what that entails and when, IDK.) The hotel is managed or owned by Wyndham so go to their site for prices, etc. Also, the Cottage Hill rooms are in an older motel across the road, not sure how comfy that is.

There is an absolutely beautiful brewery/winery called Great Divide that has numerous tables overlooking the Shenandoah Valley at exit 180. It would be great for something like that.

then search "Lexington, VA" and then search "Hotels" to see a complete list and detailed description of each hotel in town, including thousands of ratings and opinions by customers.

Do the same for "Restaurants" for a complete list of restaurants, and hundreds of customer reviews of each.
