I am moving from Virginia Beach to Columbus OH. thanks if someone can help : )

Hi, I hope some of ya'll have had to drive from Virginia (coastal) to columbus and can tell me the best route for this time of year.

If you notice my sig, it says MayBmoving, well change that to, I AM MOVING.... and we will be there the first of the year. I have mapquested the drive, and we can across Virginia and West Virginia (around Beckley) and then North OR go up to DC and over across Wheeling and then across to Columbus. Which do you think is the better route???? and why??? BTW, I hate driving in Snow.

Thanks!!!

When taking a trip to Columbus, I take I-64 West to Charleston, WV then go north on I-77 to exit 146 from there I take US-33 stright into Columbus. Others on this forum may have a better route, but I like this one. There is a section of 2 lane that goes through a Ohio community, but most of US-33 is dual lane.

You may want to try Mapquest.com and enter the beginning and ending.

Good advice ... 33 is not an interstate .... but that's a good thing ... nice scenery. I70 is CROWDED .... and just another interstate.

I just came back from that way and I just loved the scenic route. We took the route Roadrunner posted to Illinois and then took 50 back to 81. Wow! What beauty and the mountain route was very relaxing.

I would love to take that scenic route!! But I think for this trip, we want to be sure that the roads will be cleared quickly if there is a snow and we are going quickly... maybe the next trip we can take our time!!! thanks for the advice.

imayBmoving, you may have more good roads taking 33 in the south than the northern route. Maybe someone on the Ohio blog may be able to help.

We stayed the night in Bridgeport, WV at the Holiday Inn...very accommodating and good food. When on a road trip, I absolutely do not rush getting to or from my destinations. I fly so much, it's nice to be able to drive and see things. Not only that, our total drive trip was 1/3 the cost of two round trip tickets.
