Hello everyone, we have been staying in the Asheville North Carolina area and are looking to head home a bit earlier to pennsylvania. We're looking for somewhere in Virginia that's about 2 hours North of Asheville to stop at for a quick day trip on the way. An nice quaint towns right off of 81 would be great. We'll be hitting Staunton for a day too so somewhere in between the two towns is what we're aiming for. If there is a really nice hotel/resort to spend the night at, the that is even better

The Martha Washington Inn in Abingdon or the General Francis Marion Hotel in Marion.

Both well-regarded properties in great towns for some sightseeing.

Some good restaurants we have tried:

128 Pecan in Abingdon

The Harvest Table in Meadowview (close to Abingdon) is great for locally sourced food

The Speakeasy at the hotel in Marion was awesome

One of the most beautiful spots I've been to is Great Valley Farm Brewery and Winery in Lexington, off exit 180. They have a beautiful outdoor space overlooking the mountains.

I also agree with Abingdon. There are numerous good restaurants in town. There is also a good BBQ spot in Marion on its Main St.

All of downtown historic Lexington is worth a visit. Really picturesque town and gorgeous scenery.
Washington and Lee university is right in town and has that Ivy League vibe and historic interest.
There’s a lovely walking trail along Woods Creek that wraps all through town.
The Great Valley Farm Brewery and Winery is actually in Natural Bridge which is very close to Lexington.
