Ok, I'm sure this is a stupid question, but when traveling to NC last week we seen alot of three large crosses. They were grouped, two white crosses, one on each side of a taller yellow cross. Does this have a particular meaning ?

Thanks, Bill

Default My two guesses are...

It's either the re-creation of the death of Jesus and him being murdered alongside two thieves to send a message to the public at large or maybe it is to remember a loved one(s) who died on that particular road. Or maybe I am way off base too, but that is what I think it could be!!! Good question btw!

Whatever helps a person, sobeit.

Here is a link to a story of the crosses and the person responsible for them.Bernard Coffindaffer erected 1864 of them in 29 states and spent over $3,000,000 of his own money doing it. http://www.christiancrosses.org/History.htm

Default Mr Williamsburg

Wow, that was very interesting, thank you for sending that link, I would never have known or heard of any of that.

Lightbulb Aha!

I've been wondering who had put all those crosses up. I have seen them in many places and figured they must have been put there by an organization, rather than just the landowners. Now we know.

Speaking of crosses, there's a HUGE cross just South of I-40 at Groom, Texas (about 30 miles East of Amarillo) I've had the good fortune to pass it at different times of the day and it is one awesome sight (especially at sunrise or sunset!) The same guy also built two others, one in Effingham, Il and I'm not sure where # 3 is.

Is this that cross in Texas you're talking about? Saw it this summer on a cross country road trip and boy is it HUGE!
