Hi,

I need to visit Washington DC for a few days to take care of some business. I am thinking to stay at Fairfax or Falls Church. Are both cities safe place to stay? I will need to do some shopping while there. Which city has better shopping options? Thank you.

Neither are cities. You are going to "do" anything in those areas as they are largely suburban towns. If you want to be able to do shopping I'd suggest staying in Tysons instead, plenty of hotels, has a metro line to DC and Arlington where there are actual things to do.

In terms of safety. You are fine, regardless of where you stay, with the exception of highway motels. Northern Virginia is pretty much the safety place on earth.
