I used to live in Arlington. It's too noisy, too crowded. I am looking to move to a place that's friendly toward single professionals in their 30s and 40s, that's safe, peaceful and quiet. Is Bethesda a good place?

I'll 2nd Tonyc Definately YES! Bethesda is such a great place to live. If I were single and could afford it (I am not and I can't anyway) I would move back there in a red hot second! Best single years of my life!!!

I know Bethesda very well. It depends where the place is located--e.g., in or close to downtown, it can be "city living." If you find a rental condo or share a house further away from downtown and not on a major artery, those areas can be quieter. Congested driving and aggressive ("out of my way, I am so important") driving are also issues around here, though. All in all, I like Bethesda although it doesn't have as interesting and diverse a "scene" as one might find in some other places. "Peaceful," though, I don't know. Expensive? Definitely.
