My wife and I are planning to move to the DC area this fall..I'm just wondering if anyone has any info on the best websites to find decent but affordable apartments, and some info on where to look? Thank you!

Where are you working? The commute factor is huge here. Being able to walk to work or conveniently take the Metro are considered real pluses, but places very close to Metro can be more expensive.
You might do some initial browsing on apartmentratings.com (a ratings site by apt. dwellers), keeping in mind that sometimes people with more positive experiences don't sit down and post positive reviews--it can skew a little toward the negative. Craigslist DC is also good for an overview of what is out there. No one should take anything sight unseen, however. Good luck.
