Nightlife is a relative term, and IMO, it depends on the age group. Most town in Montgomery County die after dark, even Bethesda, so there is really no nightlife to speak of.

The magazines always do that. It's like they don't recognize district lines or something. The article also included Gaithersburg and TONS of places in Rockville.

Just been reading through this thread and posting here out of nostalgia more than anything else. I grew up in Olney where the lone spot for nightlife was the Stained Glass Pub above the Cuckoo's Nest restaurant.
During the early to mid-90's (when I was in my early 20's) Rockville Pike had a pretty decent nightlife scene. There was Studebaker's as someone mentioned earlier. I also recall Fegan's nightclub which was in the top floor of an office or hotel and may have been right across the street from Studebakers. There was an old dive bar, Manny's- I think, which had live, local bands- can't remember where exactly it was, maybe Twinbrook area.
I remember Champion's Billiards Café behind Congressional Plaza and it was open 24hrs. We'd often stay until 4 or 5am on weekend nights shooting pool. Winston's and Fritzbee's are a few other places I remember. The Silver Diner and TGI Fridays were the old standbys for late night food. Some nights we'd just browse the aisles of Tower Records for an hour or two. And if we got tired of the scene on the Pike, we'd schlep it down to Bethesda or DC/Georgetown where we'd hit places like Champions, The 3rd Edition, 5th Column, Rumors, etc. Or, on occasion, we'd make the trek to Fells Point in Baltimore and hit up a few spots there. Ah memories of days gone by...
