Seems like Largo gets changed to Mitchelleville then to Bowie, right back to Largo and someone flipped a coin and finally settled on Mitchelleville/Bowie. Crazy. It all seems like one big area to me. There nice area regardless of the mailing address.

Largo, Kettering and UM get tossed into the same mix as well. When unincorporated Bowie started booming, then Mitchellville became Bowie.

It all seems the same to me. I've got a friend who technically lives in Woodmore but has a Bowie mailing address and he says he lives in Largo.

I usually just say he lives in Bowie since that's what his address says. I wish mailing addresses made more sense :|

Hyattsville mailing addresses are even more confusing. You have the actual City of Hyattsville, then some of the bordering areas with Hyattsville addresses, and then areas that in some cases are separate incorporated areas and are miles away but still have Hyattsville addresses. There's probably more but off the top of my head, all the following have Hyattsville mailing addresses:

-City of Hyattsville
-Chillum
-Avondale
-Lewisdale
-Carole Highlands
-Langley Park
-Edmonston (incorporated town)
-Woodlawn
-Landover Hills (incorporated town)
-Rogers Heights
-the unincorporated area between Bladensburg and Cheverly
-West Lanham Hills
-Ardmore
-Kentland
-Palmer Park
-the parts of Landover between Sheriff Road and Central Avenue

and out of all those, only Edmonston, Lewisdale, and Chillum actually border Hyattsville

Don't forget Springdale has the same zip code as those places too.

And some people who are cynical about the opening of Flowers High in Springdale say that Springdale is really glorified Landover. Go figure. I think the residents of Springdale would beg to differ.

See what had happened was the good people of Lake Arbor/Woodmore wanted a zip code that wasn't 20785 or Landover/Hyattsville. They considered the area as Mitchellville but did not have their own zip code. When given the choice of the Bowie zip code they chose it over 20785. So really Mitchellville got swallowed up into Bowie (unincorporated).

The same thing happened with Springdale which is a new name by the way. That whole area was known as Ardmore. When the newer homes were built down that way, the residents did not want to be associated with the Landover name nor the 20785 zip code. So they made up a name and took a new zip code 20774.
