In my continued effort to learn about DC from afar. I think with the housing costs of the area....it seems like Frederick MD and Woodbridge are reasonable enough priced to me.

Frederick is further from DC...but I like the looks of the city itself quite a bit, despite the further distance.

Woodbridge is closer to DC...

Which would you choose...and why? (Not that I'd follow your advice, but particulary interested in your reasoning behind your choice)...maybe something you really like or really dislike about one of the two choices...?

270 is no where as bad as 95.....My officemate comes in from Woodbridge, and we compare notes. Not to mention, once you in Gaithersburg you have multiple choices to get to DC. Try that in Woodbridge....

I would suggest Laurel which is 20 miles from DC and accessible by Commuter Rail, I-95, and Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Laurel is divided by 3 Counties(Prince Georges County, Howard County, and Anne Arundel County) and to my understanding the most reasonable price homes are on the Anne Arundel County side......

In my opinion they are equally bad, but whatever, it's just my opinion. There several ways to get to DC from Woodbridge though. The multiple choices from Gaithersburg aren't really any quicker than 270. There are several routes from the Frederick area too.

Have you tried Beltsville? It's pretty close to DC yet has a rural feeling....with traditional homes on large lots for under $300K. Providing quick access to major expressways, it's probably a "diamond in the rough" undiscovered by many....close to UM...and not far from "shopping in Laurel" (Laurel's only redeeming quality)... or Greenbelt.

YES! I have thought of that entire area - Beltsville, Greenbelt, College Park, Berwyn Heights. That's actually another region I've been thinking of....

Frederick City is awesome and has a great feel and charm to it with a lot of history, great restuarants like Dutch's Daughter, Isabellas, Cacique, Greene Turtle, Volt, etc and culture with the Weinberg Center, Frederick Keys baseball... You don't really have that in Woodbridge. I haven't been to Woodbridge in several years, however, when I commuted from Stafford to McLean about 10 years ago, the traffic was horrendous on 95. Traffic is not the best on 270 either (unless you leave around 5 am), but in addtion to the MARC train, you also have the 991 Commuter Bus which will take you from either Monocacy Station or Urbana to the Shady Grove Metro Station. I did this for a while and I enjoyed being able to sleep instead of driving in the traffic!

Frederick certainly seems like a nice compact self-contained little downtown.
