I'm an individualist so for me this area is past "diverse" and is becoming solidly black. It's not a bad thing and it's not better or worse than whatever the hell it was yesterday it just is what it is.. humanity and its migration. Neat stuff in a way. BUT as an individualist when I go to a restaurant where I'm the only white guy and the attitude is "BLM!" I think to myself how is this any different than going to some hobunk place in southland USA where the attitude is STAND FOR THE FLAG OR ELSE...

This is all so goofy, frankly. The change has arrived in Charles County so we need to stop talking about color majorities and income and talk about what happens next.

Thank you and good night, Irene.
what the HELL is the "vibe is BLM" at a restaurant? What is that? What is a Black Lives Matter vibe? Or do you just not like black lives mattering?

From what you've told me going to a restaurant and being the only white guy mean black people are not trying to improve things and their trying to create a mecca in Charles County? And the county is not diverse because its 49% black and like 44% white. Wow.

People say Boston is racist but i always see and hear it more in Maryland i swear.... things i read on here and in the Bmore subforum, things i hear in real life, service when im out...so much open hostility, so many assumptions

Charles had a wave of White Flight that began around 1980 (actually earlier when St. Charles started developing), that's when you saw the income going up and surpassing Prince George's. Keep in mind that both Counties were largely rural and agriculturally based.

That was concurrent with Blacks moving to Prince George's from the District for lower rents and better schools (which should tell you how bad DC schools were/still are). Prince George's was majority White at that time, something like 70/75-25/30. So this idea that the County has always been some sort of Black economic powerhouse is-mistaken.

Black Flight to Charles started to be noticeable after 2000, mostly in the school system because most of the people incoming either had school age kids or were having them. The schools became majority/minority around 2015. That was due to both Black Fight and White kids aging out (remember that first wave of White Flight).
It does not and you all are very dense, arguing against points no one made. Enjoy where ever it is you live.

White Marylanders, especially on this forum, definitely have issues with black people. As you mention, especially those from/living in the Baltimore regions.

Not exactly true that in 1980 PGC was largely rural and agriculturally based. The northern third/ half of PGC was pretty much, completely built-out at that time. Bowie (Levitt homes) were all developed in the early 1960s. Greater Upper Marlboro, Croom, Brandywine, Accokeek, perhaps Mitchellville, and parts of Clinton, of course, were still rural in 1980.

You said people were dancing around on here. So I brought in a singing fat lady.

Boston has it's good and bad like everywhere. I mean I always hear them rant about Roxbury or Lawrence...but ya know pile on here ;-)

It’s just some individuals on the forums, Maryland is too big and diverse to be summed up as “racist”

Overall I like the area. Any post I make that seems to contradict that is either taken out of context or misinterpreted. Once the growth steadies and isn't so frantic things will begin to improve.

It's interesting to read on here or listen to the older locals talk about the area and how it has changed.

My biggest gripe is with the high taxes.. probably more directed at Maryland itself and not relevant to this thread.
