Hi everyone my husband and I are looking for somewhere decent to live in Montogmery county because we want to send our daughter to the school that has a good special education in Rockville. The bus can come and pick her up as long as we live in Montogmery county. My husband is from westcoast and I am from oversea so I have no idea about Montgomery county. Please give me some information like where we should avoid or what part town is decent city. Please help me...

thank you.

There are many nice areas in Montgomery county. Are you sure you just need to be in Montgomery county, vs Rockville or even a specific zip code or school district in Rockville?

Also what other features are important to you? (e.g. cost of housing, close to METRO, school district, etc)?

Thank you, ecnorton. Yes, I spoke to the vice principle at the school in Rockville. As long as I live in the county, I am able to send my daughter to the school in Rockville. The school is 20853 area. I am from very contry so I like somewhere nice and peaceful.. I like to live somewhere close to hospital and some grocery stores to buy food. Some places to go with my small children (1 year old and 4 year old) Me, myself I am not too much of outdoor person. I don't think I will go out at night time either.. I am also looking for some area in montogmery county. Everybody seems to recommend bethesda but wow it is expensive place to live..

North Potomac in the area close to Shady Grove Hospital and Fallsgrove might work. Might be expensive too. However, maybe a place like Derwood might be better. There's several other good possibilities in the county.

Potomac ranges from upper middle class to affluency of galactic proportions.

North Potomac, not Potomac. They're neighbors, but not exactly the same. It's still expensive, but not as expensive as Potomac. I was just thinking you might also look in Montgomery Village.

Silver Spring is in Montgomery County, but its kinda run down and they're trying to revitalize it. Mostly lower middle class to poverty level. North Potomac is really Gaithersburg..its just people trying to attach themselves to the Potomac name. However don't tell them that.

Since you mention that the school is in the 20853 zip and that Bethesda seems expensive, I would recommend you look in the Bel Pre/Flower Valley/Olney area. There are some nice older homes near Norbeck Road and Bel Pre Road. As you go further out Georgia Avenue, there are many nice areas of Olney. It's not as expensive as Bethesda/Potomac/North Potomac but it still a safe, pleasant area. Stay west of Georgia Avenua and north of Aspen Hill Road in the 20853 zip code.

That area would also make a fairly easy trip to either Montgomery General Hospital (Olney) or Holy Cross Hospital (Silver Spring). Both are right off of Georgia Avenue.

All of Montgomery County is developed for easy access to grocery stores etc. Montgomery County is very consumer oriented.

You also haven't said where either of you might be working. That could have a large impact on commute times.

People could also recommend areas if they had a price range for your housing.

Good luck.
