Light rail has been looked at for years. The costs are currently prohibitive. Also, sufficient ridership would not be generated to justify the cost. It would run down the median of RTE 301. Sen. Roy Dyson has been pushing it for years.

The Waldorf bypass has also been on the books for years. Again the costs are prohibitive due to rights of way issues and wetlands mitigation. Even if the costs are taken care of the reality is that you're looking at a permitting process measured in decades working your way through the US Army Corps of Engineers and the various MD agencies.
County lags on submitting connector data to agencies

A Potomac River ferry? Same thing. Costs are too high for the potential ridership to afford it in addition to a lack of docking areas.

Metro won't come down either. Again a lack of potential riders. They also can't take care or service what they have now. It doesn't even service as far south as Upper Marlboro.

Charles, as do all the SoMD Counties and PG, has an intra-county bus system in operation, in addition to collection points for the commuter buses to DC.

Actually the Univ. of MD has some some kind of outreach in Waldorf. See Waldorf Center for Higher Education

Waldorf actually has TWO ways of driving to and from DC / NoVA. There is Highway 301, and then there is Highway 228 to 210.

In a nutshell, some good things about Waldorf is, it has a 2-level shopping Mall, every conceivable chain restaurant and other service, a new Baseball team, an ice rink, and numerous lakes with walking paths around them (in the various planned neighborhoods of Saint Charles).

Some bad things about Waldorf are, people feel the population is getting demographically/ racially more like the population of Prince Georges County to the North. People often complain about the unruly teenage boys hanging in the Mall and around the movie theater in the evenings. The highways are full of commercial signage and not as landscaped as say, Calvert County's are. There are also very few employment / tech worksites that pay a good wage, very close by. Unless they work in some sort of local community service occupation, most people to earn a breadwinning-wage must commute to either Andrews AFB or to the DC area.

Al they need to do is make the MTA commuter buses run ALL DAY 7 DAYS Then merge segments of the local buses with the commuter buses via extending them giving the ridership to justify service enhancement!!!!!! All that needs to be done is a regionalization of the transit system its too local!!!!
