State of Gaithersburg is good, mayor says

The mayor's text also focused on the housing and commercial developments that are helping stoke the city's economic recovery.

Developments around the city at Crown Farm, Watkins Mill, Parklands, Olde Towne and at Gaithersburg High School all signal an exciting turnaround.

Katz asked the crowd to applaud the completion of the terminus of the Intercounty Connector in the city and stressed the need for more connectivity. He also highlighted new businesses helped by city grants.

Katz also acknowledged challenges the city will face in the coming year: safety along the railroad track that cuts through the city, increasing environmental restrictions and rebuilding city services.

"While there are signs that the economy is improving, we know that there are many in our community still facing financial hardship," Katz stated.

He said the city would continue its focus on moderately-priced housing, foreclosure prevention and financial management workshops.

"All clouds have a silver lining, and one that has emerged from our belt tightening has been a focus on working not only harder, but smarter."

Gaithersburg much like most major cities will have multiple hub commercial districts or CBD's. Kentlands CBD, Watkin's Mill Town Center CBD, Crown Farm/Washingtonian Center CBD, Olde Town CBD, and the Massive Gaithersburg Downtown CBD are going to trump everything in the DC area except Washington DC and Baltimore City.[/quote]

I highly doubt gaithersburg will surpass, the Rosslyn Ballston corridor, Crystal City, Tysons Corner, and the new White Flint as a urban mixed use center. Does Gburg even have more jobs then Rosslyn or Ballston at the moment?

I think what you are forgetting is this is about living in an urban environment over a entire city. The area's you mentioned are not cities. They are CBD's in counties. Currently nobody lives in Tyson's Corner and it's a car sprawled out office park. The redevelopment of Tyson's Corner will be very urban but will only cover 3.8 sq. miles which is how big Tyson's Corner is and it will take over 40 years to complete. Crystal City and Rosslyn-Ballston are not one area. They are extremely urban but very small in area compared to an actual city. There really is no comparison between a city and a county. If you want to compare Arlington to Montgomery County, that would be a separate argument. If you want to compare a county to a city which is what Arlington is, it's not comparable. Alexandria would be the only accurate comparison.

This is not about jobs but since you bring it up, Gaithersburg's Science City will have 52,500 jobs alone. The downtown Gaithersburg area will equal White Flint in jobs. That is the problem though, Downtown Gaithersburg is only one part of Gaithersburg. You still have Watkins Mill Town Center, Kentlands, etc. That is the problem with comparing piece meal area's like White Flint or Crystal City to an entire incorporated city.

Gaithersburg Science City with 52,500 jobs alone will surpass White Flint, Crystal City, and Rosslyn-Ballston.

Once again, Arlington is a county. Gaithersburg is a city. Would you like to compare Arlington County to Montgomery County? If you would like to compare the two counties, we need to start a new thread since this thread is about Gaithersburg construction and development.

Better Question:

Does Gaithersburg have more Jobs than Reston, Herndon, Sterling, and Tyson's Corner(MDAllstar Claims that Tysons Corner will someday be larger than Downtown Houston)????????

My Answer is NO..............

Without producing Business Growth and High End Upscale Retail; then Gaithersburg that you are boasting about Will not be as successful as you you try to paint it as long as Tysons Corner, Arlington, Reston, Herndon, and Sterling continues to produce New Business Growth and Upscale Retail Growth......

Arlington is like Brooklyn-Queens-Bronx-Staten Island-Manhattan in terms of being both City and County.......

Now since you want to eliminate Arlington from the discussion due to your personal view of Arlington then Alexandria will do in which Alexandria have 5x's as much High Paying Professional Business Jobs than Gaithersburg........
