I am looking for an affordable place to rent in or around silver springs. I can't spend too much and I have to have 2 bedrooms. I will be working in Washington DC so I dont want too much of a commute. Can you please direct me to a place that is SAFE and CHEAP that wont make my commute more the 30 mins give or take. thanks

I currently live in Summit Hills, and I love it. It's $1640 for a 2 bedroom, but I think the price is going up slightly. It has free utilities, an awesome gym, plenty of parking, and it's a good location. Not in the middle of downtown Silver Spring, but it's a 15 minute walk, and also close to Giant and CVS. Highly recommended!

It helps to define "affordable" since the DC metro area is very expensive compared to most of the rest of the country.

Also, I will say it first.....Silver Spring, not Silver Springs.

Yes, "Silver Springs" is in Florida, so that's gonna be one heck of a commute to DC. A lot of people seem to make that mistake for some reason.

Anyways, you have to give us more info. How much are you willing to spend? Were you just looking at downtown Silver Spring or outer areas of SS? Because outer areas are cheaper and you'll likely need to take a bus and then Metro into DC. Downtown Silver Spring is expensive, and it does seem Summit Hills is one of the cheaper communities.

You can also look at any of the following:

Silver Spring Towers Apartments
The Blairs (but more expensive)
Hampton Point Apartments

Try Southern Management Company as it seems to me from my extensive search to have the better rated. It's not true across the board but the percentage seems higher.

Look at Rock Creek Springs on Eastern Drive. It's about seven minutes to the Metro (via foot), three minutes to the Giant behind East-West Hwy., and ten minutes or so to the heart of downtown Silver Spring. The complex is a bit older but quiet and well-maintained. I lived there for three years and did not have a problem. Rents will be relatively cheaper.

Any renters in Silver Spring have cats? I'm thinking of moving there, price seems ok ($1300-$1600 based on posts here), but I have 2 cats. The cats are non-negotiable. I have automotive transport, but would like to live in a walkable local community.
