Hi,

I have landed my self a job in the Greenbelt city. I am looking for a studio Apt in greanbelt or nearby area. I have a car so commute should not be a problem. My main criteria is saftey as I have heard their is lot of crime near Greenbelt.

I would appreciate if someone can tell me what areas are good in 15-20 mile range of greenbelt and if you have any apartments that you can recommend and what is the average cost of an apartment for a studio room.

Thanks

That's a tough one- lots of Greenbelt is not so great. If you can find something in old greenbelt, you'd be better off. DO NOT go to Springhill Lake- it's awful. Old Greenbelt is the area near the little "town center". Otherwise maybe try College Park where all the college student live. Expect to pay anywhere from $700-$1000 for an apartment. You might want to try to rent from a private residence or look for roommates. Laurel is an okay area in some parts- about 10-15 minutes from Greenbelt.

I was born and raised in Montgomery County, Maryland, maybe I can be of some help. I worked in Greenbelt, Maryland for awhile. I lived in Glen Burnie, Maryland and commuted down Route 1 to work in Greenbelt. It wasn't that bad of a commute, but it has been a couple of years ago. Even then, I would not have actually lived in Greenbelt. Check out the Laural, Maryland area. It is a nicer, safer, area, and well within commuting distance of Greenbelt.

I also worked for a time in Silver Spring, Maryland. Unless you have money and can afford a home of your own in a good area, I do not recommend living there, especially not near the Metro RailStation area of Silver Spring. Anyone who is living in that vicinity nowadays can tell you more.
