Run Silent Run Deep, thanks so much for the awesome pics of Del Ray. I'm definately going to check out that Farmers Market.

I'll be checking out Hyattsville, Del Ray and Greenbelt within the next couple of months (planning to move in February 2012). I'll let you guys know what I chose. Thanks for your help.

Sounds great. When you come check out Hyattsville, most of the new retail will be in place. Also, there's recent news that a Whole Foods is going to be built right down the street from Hyattsville.

Route 1 through hyattsville is plain and simply gross. The downtown arts district they attempted to create is a joke and only tries to mask the depressed area that hyattsville is. If I were a 40 year old female I would not feel comfortable at all walking anywhere in hyattsville after dark. To me the area just is not desirable at all. It's gross. It just feelsold and rundown. The OP description of where she lives and describes about Charlotte, trees and green area and her background in NYC to me screams georgetown in dc. I don't think you'll find what you are looking for in Maryland. Maybe Virginia, but I just don't see it in MD.

You could consider Frederick, MD. It's not as close to DC, but it has a wonderful downtown area and some people even commute to DC every day just to live there.

Actually, most people moved there because they could not afford to buy a house close in.

They couldn't "afford" to buy a house close in? Or they choose to get more house and a better quality of life by moving further out?

I would say it is the later when you consider the average wealth of a family in Frederick County is high enough to live in all but the most ritzy areas of MoCo, they would just have less house to show for their purchase.

Better quality of life..... How's the traffic on 270? How's the daily 2 to 3 hour commute? If that's what you mean by quality of life! Geez!

People put up with it. Besides, alot of people that commute from Frederick County don't go all the way into DC, they commute to Rockville or Gaithersburg. So it would "only" be a 1 hour commute each way.

I guess it just comes down to priorities.
