So I have this car registered in NC and tagged until next April. I have the title and everything, no loan whatsoever. Here are a few Qs related to that:

1. I currently have an NC DL, expiring in 1.5 months, so I'll get an MD DL then. Do I need to transfer the car to MD title, or I can use the MD DL for the NC titled car (if so should I inform NC DMV about DL change etc?)

2. If I'll have to re-register the car in MD, can I keep using the NC insurance policy for this MD titled car or I also need to change insurance?

3. Can I sell the NC titled car in Maryland? When I signed off the title (NC), it's the buyer who would take care of the rest (get plate and tag in MD)?

Thanks a lot.

There is some info on Maryland's DMV site that should answer your questions. You have to register your car in MD within 60 days or so in order to qualify for a tax credit.

Also if a cop stops you for say speeding and finds out you've been living in MD without registering your car you can get fined. I was when as a student I bought a car in Michigan and never registered in MD. I was stopped for speeding, then cited for failing to register.

You maybe insured but once the company gets wind that you are really in MD as opposed to NC they will not cover you when you file a claim.
You shouldn't have a problem selling an out of state titled car in MD.

#3 - just sell it and give title to buyer. Easy.
