We are considering to move to Gaithersburg or South Gaithersburg. (North Potomac). My husband needs to take the ICC (MD200) when it will be finished in early 2012 and then get to Columbia. Do you think this is reasonable? I expect the traffic on ICC to be manageable, and then getting to Columbia as well .

The ICC is set to open Nov 22, 2011. I think it is a reasonable commute. The high tolls will keep traffic down.

That area should be fine. I lived in Potomac (Piney Meeting House/Shady Grove) and commuted to the BWI area for a few years. Since there was no ICC back then, I had the option of just going down 270/495/95 or take the local roads - which is pretty much the same path as the ICC. I guess now you'll have three options depending on how early or late you leave.

We are moving to Columbia soon. Just checked on google map with my friend's address (old town Gaithersburg), it looks like ICC saves about 10 miles of driving but with no significant time saving (about 5 mins based on Google's calculation).
