My Husband and I are looking to relocate and he is looking at some jobs around the, Maryland, DC area (he's an Accountant, and is thinking about government jobs) We want to start a family so are looking for areas that have good schools, Low crime etc(smaller towns are better). He doesn't mind having to commute a little maybe like 30 min commute or even a commuter rail would be great! We are also looking for a place that is not extremely expensive. 250K - 300K would be great

any suggestions (does a place like that even exist in that area)

If such a place existed, we wouldn't have this website.

Your criteria is rather cliche for this thread but it's kind of unrealistic. There is some sacrificing that is going to have to be made in order to at least get some of what you are looking for. Let's start out, with ranking these items of importance to least importance: Commute, Cost of buying, size of place, shopping, amenities (parks, hospitals), public transportation.

Getting all this will help because it's not going to be easy to find a place that is going to completely satisfy your criteria.

Default thanks

it's not that he wants to work in DC. we are just looking for a smaller town to raise a family where he can get a job! so a commute to where ever he works is important and then safety and schools would be the next big thing... i know that in order to get those thing we are going to have to pay more . I'm just hoping we can find something not super expensive.

You might consider living in Frederick, and commuting in to Germantown, Gaithersburg, Rockville or Bethesda. Even there, the price range will get you a rancher or small townhouse, and a 30 minute commute is not realistic.

I think that is a good suggestion. I concur.

I suggested North Laurel in Howard Couty to someone with similar requirements. There are small ranch houses and townhouses in that price range. It's close to the MARC train into DC.
