It depends on the situation. If you are spending quality time then yes it is rude to ignore the person you are with (the same goes for talking on the phone while having company). If it is not quality time then responding to necessary/emergency texts it acceptable as long as it is not a habit. Not all texts are recreational so I don't agree with those that feel that they are. It is now just as viable a form of communication as calling someone. Bottom line is if it is bothering your bf then you need to have a conversation so that you can reach a compromise.

You young folks may feel differently, but to me, private time between two individuals shouldn't be disturbed by gadget communication. Just turn it off. 12 years ago virtually no one had cell phones, and humanity got along just fine.
LOL I guess I'm an old man trapped in a 35 year old body becaue I find texting while with your significant other to be rude.

How is it any different from the times when people would drop everything, including times with their significant other, to jump up and answer a ringing telephone? It's rude. I don't always think it's rude, but it too often is.
