What is the review on this place? I know it's apparently the "2nd Homebase" for the MS-13 gang after Los Angeles. But what else is there

Having lived in Los Angeles, Langley Park wouldn't be considered close to that in terms of the gang problem. Does that mean they exist? Of course, but compared to what it was like in Los Angeles, no way. There are many more gangs over there that people in this area may have not heard of and are often still fighting with each other. There are barely any gangs that MS-13 would want to battle with. Plenty of Section 8 housing though and more grit. Not really the place I'd want to live, since it is not really physically appealing to me.

That being said MS-13 may exist there, but my assumption with the gangs in the DC area is that these guys flee the West to the DC area find a safer place to retreat from all that violence. Police presence is much higher than in inner cities like LA and DC. But yeah, LP may have been the haven for MS-13, not sure if this is still the case despite the busts police made on these guys.

Anyways, what you will find there will be international grocery stores, restaurants and other services, mostly for the Hispanic community but it is also quite diverse with Indian, etc.

Ahh yes...at least one pretty good Indian restaurant! Great place to drive to for a buffet, and get the hell out back to Bethesda afterwards..

I believe that is a vegetarian place. Not into it, but the parents and sis liked it.

Langley Park is wall to wall 1940-50s apartment buildings and small rancher style homes (and duplexes). At most of the major intersections, there is some type of strip mall with diverse businesses.

I grew up in Langley Park in the 60s-80s. It was a blue collar working class area. It has changed drastically over the years and the demographics have changed but it has always been a diverse area (even way back when). It was never really an area for the well-to-do.

I've read on the forum that these apartment complexes are "Dirty". Would you agree?

What is your interest in Langley Park? Do you need to move there for a job?

I don't plan to answer, as this poster seems to try to stir up controversy where ever he posts.

Most of these apartments were built in the 40s and 50s. Not so much dirty as just dated. However, some of the complexes were never well-kept - even in the 70s before the big change in demographics. This was more from the owners and managers than the tenants that lived there. Many of the apartments back in the day had an abundance of senior citizens so they were never really high priced and the lack of amenities and upkeep reflected that.

Nowadays I don't know if the apartments are "dirty." I just know that most are very old.
