Looking for some input. I may be getting a job in Montgomery County and I would like to live in the county. I am not familiar with the county at all and was wondering where the most affordable areas in the county would be.

Main concerns are simply affordable home in Montgomery County in a decent to good area (safety wise).

Any ideas on where I should look?

For buying Germantown might be your best bet.

For rentals - check craigslist. You can find good deals all over the county.

Living by yourself? Plan to rent or buy? Future/present family?

Do you know where your job will be? Montgomery County can be relatively affordable the further out you go.

That ratio (87:341; nearly 4:1) will make it tough for most.
Good luck.

Germantown is not the safest of Montgomery County towns, so check it out carefully. Make sure to figure out your commute, or you could find yourself stuck in the parking lot they call 270 - both ways.

How is Germantown not safe compared with other Montgomery County towns? I live in Gaithersburg and spend a fair amount of time in Germantown and have never found myself to be in any danger. I read the crime report section in the Gazette and usually there are the same types of crimes reported in Germantown as there are in most other towns in Montgomery County.

It's fine, anytime there is a quick influx of non-white folks, people decide its ghetto and dangerous. Zero proof, just racism.

I live in Montgomery Village; I think 20886 is still one of (if not the) most affordable zip code in Montgomery County.
