Hello,

I am moving to the area and wanted to get your opinion on how bad the commute would be from the southern parts of Ellicott City to Andrews AFB. It looks like it would be a lot of time on 495 which I've heard is bad news. Please let me know if anyone has any experience with this commute. Thank you.

-Shaun

How often? And which part of which days?

If the intent is the common M-F 6A to 6P bracket... I'd find somewhere a lot closer.
Have you asked the base housing people about the options?

Yikes! It has to be 45 miles. On a Sunday morning, I probably could do this very easily in 40 minutes. In the worst of rush hour, you could be looking at 90 minutes without rain/snow. I would expect that it's at least an hour (maybe a few minutes more).

my friend used to work at AAFB, and i would meet him in Laurel MD for Happy Hour at Hooters sometimes, but he used to be stuck in traffic for a while (at LEAST an hour). Since Ellicott city is further out i would add at least an additional 30 minutes to commute time. inclement weather / accidents + increasing transplants / job growth and you're looking at several hours easily (especially if you're doing the typical M-F 8-5pm). I personally HATE sitting in traffic so i wouldn't personally do this commute unless i had a work schedule that was like 10-630 or 5-3 or something
