I rent in Pentagon City in VA right now and commute to Annapolis MD. It takes about 40 min in the morning and and hour back. I enjoy the area, but I am considering on moving to the MD suburbs so that I don't have to go through DC. I want to be close to the Metro since my GF takes that to work into DC. Cruising around the metro stations on the orange and blue lines I didn't really see anything that looked great and within walking distance of a metro station. I liked some of the apartments around the Largo metro, but people I know say i should look elsewhere. We are considering on getting a second car if there's nothing close to the metro, but what areas would you recommend close to the 50 on the east side of DC? Or are there some neighborhoods withing walking distance of metro stations on the east side of DC that we may have missed? I just want an area that is safe.

I want to stick to renting (preferably $1500/mo or under) and I prefer SFH>TownHouse>Condo, but I'm not too picky. The biggest priority is having parking if we get a second car.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Frankly, I would feel safer in the Capitol South or Eastern Market areas in the District than in any of the Prince George's communities close to the Orange/Blue Lines. But I am not sure if there's anything affordable on Capitol Hill. Out of the Prince George's locations, I am most comfortable with Cheverly, as there are more single family homes and it seems a little cleaner. You might look into the Cheverly Station Apartments or the Kent Village Apartments.

With a second car, your options are more open. You could look at Bowie, Crofton, Davidsonville, etc.

Hi FastFood Fan,

I am in a somewhat similar situation to you, and I was wondering if you'd had any luck making decisions.

My boyfriend and I are going to move in together. He works in Annapolis, while I work in Crystal City (and go to school in Dupont). I was thinking that Capitol Hill or something in the Eastern part of DC would be best for us, but I'm just not quite sure where to hone in.

Any tips? I currently live in Columbia Heights, and I don't know much about Capitol Hill or other areas, but metro accessibility, as well as some parking would be helpful.
