I have been looking other areas as well to buy a single family home of around 300,000. Our kids are grown up but I would defenately consider to sale my house latter as well a safe place to say home. Old Chapel Road area is fine in Bowie. Most of the homes are older so you may find some nice ones and you will find some more run down ones. Crime isnt much of a factor on that side of Bowie. On the other side of 197 and Annapolis Road Old Bowie, the "W" "Y" Belair Town and the townhomes off Race Track Road are more crime due to Voucher families and DC and Baltimore Transplants.

Old Chapel between Hillmeade Rd. and Rt. 197 looks very quiet. However, some guys, including a couple of homeless men and a group of younger men, like to hang out on the steps of the parking lot at the shopping center on 197. The steps are accessible on Old Chapel. I personally don't like loitering, and they do walk through the shopping center from time to time. And I saw one guy urinating against a building at the shopping center. The point is that most of those guys have to come from somewhere around the area.

Old Chapel between Rt. 197 and Racetrack Rd. frankly also looks quiet, and it is for the most part, from what I have heard. There may be a few rowdy folks over there. I knew there was a rash of break-ins a few years back in the W section. But it's not all bad, because the highest-ranked elementary and middle schools in the County are located in that area.
